This summer, the wife and I wanted to get the kids out in the RV and decided to take a chance with the YOGI Bear, branded experience in Colorado, after all, we’d recently seen the movie and I wondered how a branded cartoon character could effect the experience of the RV park seeing how my brother used to go there pretty often as a kid when it a non branded experience.

Read Below to see the impact that the new ownership and the franchised brand team had:

1) Clean Bathrooms:

We took showers, used the bathrooms several times and found every visit to be clean and ready for business. I’m sure you’re like us and find that family places with dirty bathrooms are really not preferred. Maybe when you’r single and backpacking it through the urban jungles of the world, an unkept toilet is doable, however, our desire to keep the kids safe from germs etc makes us score Yogi as a good camper when it comes to healthy restrooms.

2) Fishing Pond

None of us our great fishermen/women so when our five year old wanted to catch something, we cruised on over to the fishin hole and cast in. Everyone had a great time.

3) Dog Run

We brought our pups on this trip, and like that Jellystone had a place for them to party with other canines while we sat on the swing and watched the sun come up.

4) Swimming Pool

B0o Boo and Yogi really know how to take the edge off the summer heat. The pool was nice and cold and the kids loved it. I think we saw one family there every time we went back as if they never left! Like the picture shows, it was clean and well kept!

5) Playground

As if the entire place wasn’t already a giant playground, this place had….A GIANT PLAYGROUND! Kids from all over the place came and chased each other into the wee hours of the night here. Daytime and Night Time entertainment!

6) Free Wheeling

We’re pretty sure this is how Yogi and Boo Boo get away with the picnic baskets. These are free to ride and there is a nice little race track to boot!

7) Baby Goats

Every day, a heard of baby goats is lead by property owner Ian, who leads families on a light hike through the forest while telling them about the local property and educating kids about goats and goat herding. This experience is rediculously awesome…our kids found themselves adopting a particular goat for the whole week and watching the clock to go back. These little animals are cute, cuddly and so accessible that this alone is probably why we’ll go back next summer!

8 ) Dinosaur Dig

If fishing, swimming and running with a heard of animals isn’t enough, you can walk right up to the Dinosaur Dig area and find fossils, treasures and get covered in as much water and mud as you can handle!

9) Theater

This just proves that girls are smarter than boys! Cindy has converted an old railroad car into a tiny movie theater that is a cute as it is entertaining. After a long day of campfires, TPs, Cookouts, and family fun, you can curl up to a nice movie before hitting the hay.

10) Free Wi-Fi:

Most good RV, restaurants, and public places have a version of this, and it was nice to see that Yogi was up to speed with the latest technologies, offering multiple hubs, free everywhere so that when sitting at the pool, or watching a movie with the kids in the theater, we could be posting the experiences to Facebook or following up on that last office email.

Finally,

To be fair, we didn’t list all of the cool stuff going on at this place. There were also family bonfires, cookouts, games, golf carts, archery, frisbee tennis and the list goes on. It’s really not enough to spend a single week at JellyStone. We’ll have to go back.

PS. All of this review was non-solicited. We just really wanted families to know that it’s out there!

While doing a little research to teach our children the differences between Hanukkah, Christmas and Holiday Consumerism, we decided to go to google for some quick answers.

Thankfully we were able to find lots of entries and passed along a nice holiday lesson to the kids and just in case the wife needed a few tips on how to find some extra happiness during the holiday season google was serving up links to female masturbation – now that’s something you don’t even get from Santa.

The social media world is a puzzling place for some marketers. Peep these 10 myths for a little chit chat ammo at your next marketing function.

Myth 1: “Social marketing is great because it’s free.”

Social media marketing, when executed properly, requires a significant daily resource investment in terms of time and motivated personnel. “Set it and forget it” does not apply here – proper social media marketing requires careful regular maintenance.

Myth 2: “Everyone’s doing it, so I have to.”

You only have to participate in the social media conversation if you have the resources and know-how to do so (see Myth #1). Poorly-handled marketing in this space can do you far more harm than not participating at all. Google “Nestle Facebook fiasco” for proof.

Myth 3: “I can just post our press releases on Twitter. No problem.”

People will go to your corporate site for your press releases. The social environment is not another soapbox for you to spread your tired company-speak; it’s a place to take part in a conversation, and provide useful information to your readers.

Myth 4: “I need to be everywhere: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs…”

You only need to be where your users are. Considering the resources required (there’s that “resources” word again), you’ll be better off giving your all on the one or two sites your audience frequents the most, rather than trying to spread yourself too thin across a greater number of channels.

Myth 5: “Twitter is a tool for egomaniacs.

CEOs tweet to give their company a more “human” face. Jobseekers use Twitter to see who’s hiring and get a better idea of the “personality” behind the corporation. Twitter helps turn your corporation into a living entity for prospects to connect with.

Myth 6: Kids use Facebook.

Without Twitter’s 140-character limit, Facebook provides the same benefits described above, but with a bit more room to elaborate. It also allows you to enhance that “human” feeling with photos, longer notes, and a more centralized communication hub to initiate discussions with your customers.

Myth 7: “Our Director of Marketing can do it.”

Your social media maven should have enough time in their schedule to dedicate 1-2 hours a day to actively participating in the conversations being conducted and creating valuable new content to share. If your Marketing Director has a thousand other initiatives up in the air and tweeting is just another “thing” dumped on her plate, she won’t be able to effectively maintain your social presence.

Myth 8: “We can’t join! People might say bad things about us!”

People are already saying whatever they want about you. Wouldn’t you rather be a part of the conversation so you can tactfully defend yourself and respond quickly to any concerns that are raised? Being where the discussion is allows you to address existing problems and discover brewing issues before they get out of hand.

Myth 9: “This thing’s useless – I tried it for a month and it didn’t work.”

Social marketing doesn’t give you the instant, measurable results of an e-mail blast or targeted landing page campaign; it will take time for people to find you, warm up to you, and start adding to your conversations.

Myth 10: “Our customers don’t use social media sites.”

Search Twitter or Facebook for “investment banking.” Now try “supply chain management” or “solar wafers.” Industry is irrelevant in the social environment; the audience is there and they’re going to have their conversations with or without you.

There’s a lot more to social media marketing than simply “doing it.” A realistic evaluation of resource availability and the partnership of a trusted, knowledgeable communications firm can make a difference in how you present your company on this highly-trafficked, extremely public stage.

“Tilt-shift photography” refers to the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene. Sometimes the term is used when the shallow depth of field is simulated with digital postprocessing; the name may derive from the tilt-shift lens normally required when the effect is produced optically.

“Tilt-shift” actually encompasses two different types of movements: rotation of the lens plane relative to the image plane, called tilt, and movement of the lens parallel to the image plane, called shift. Tilt is used to control the orientation of the plane of focus (PoF), and hence the part of an image that appears sharp; it makes use of the Scheimpflug principle. Shift is used to adjust the position of the subject in the image area without moving the camera back; this is often helpful in avoiding the convergence of parallel lines, as when photographing tall buildings.

Here’s a couple of common misconceptions surrounding this quickly-expanding communications channel:

Myth 1: “Social marketing is great because it’s free.”
Social media marketing, when executed properly, requires a significant daily resource investment in terms of time and motivated personnel. “Set it and forget it” does not apply here – proper social media marketing requires careful regular maintenance.

Here’s a link to a great social media policy paper that touches on the investment required from a human resource perspective. A great start if you have to write a social media policy.

You only need to be where key conversation are taking place. Considering the resources required (there’s that “resources” word again), you’ll be better off giving your all on the one or two sites your audience frequents the most, rather than trying to spread yourself too thin across a greater number of channels.

Myth 5: “Twitter is a tool for egomaniacs to tell people what they had for breakfast.”

CEOs tweet to give their company a more “human” face. Jobseekers use Twitter to see who’s hiring and get a better idea of the “personality” behind the corporation. Twitter helps turn your corporation into a living entity for prospects to connect with. When the CEO of Twitter was asked by Floodgate’s Mike Maples what business twitter was in, Dick Costolo said “the news” and we couldn’t agree more.

Myth 6: “My kids use Facebook to talk to friends – we’re a legitimate business.”

The lesson here is make friends, not spam.

Myth 10: “Our customers don’t use social media sites.”
Search Twitter or Facebook for “investment banking.” Now try “supply chain management” or “solar wafers.” Industry is irrelevant in the social environment; the audience is there and they’re going to have their conversations with or without you.

As you can see, there’s a lot more to social media marketing than simply “doing it.” A realistic evaluation of resource availability and the partnership of a trusted, knowledgeable web firm can make a massive difference in how you present your company on this highly-trafficked, extremely public stage.
